| Phals bloom in late winter thru spring.
Cymbidiums bloom mostly in spring.
Cattleyas can bloom anytime depending on their ancestry.
Cymbidiums and Phals grow spikes from the base of the plant, and Cattleyas bloom from the top of the psuedobulb/base of the leaf. As the new Catt growth matures, it will show a small envelope called a sheath, located at the above mentioned spot from which the buds will emerge. If there is no sheath on the new growth, that growth probably won't bloom. Catts and Cyms generally bloom on new growths, while Phals will produce spikes a little higher on the base of the plant than the previous spike.
