growing new roots?

Is there any way to get my poor phal to grow new roots?
It didn't take well to repotting, and now only has one flower left on its spike and basically only has two good (SHORT) roots... So is there any way to get my orchid to grow new roots?

Root hormones work. Use Superthrive in your watering water. If you bag the leaves up with clear plastic baggies, you can create humidity around the leaves that will keep the leaves going til new roots come. Use two baggies, one on each side, and leave the center of the phal open to air.

A few threads of sphagnum moss up against the stem also helps roots to form.

When I have a Phalaenopsis like that I start with cutting the spike because I want the plant to concentrate on growth of leafs and roots. If it has not enough roots left to anchor itself in a pot, sometimes I leaf part of the spike. If I need a stalk to hold it firm in the pot, the spike can become handy as it lets you attach the orchid to the stalk.
Use a pot that is just large enough to fit the roots in. Use a very airy medium to avoid future root problems. Give it good light and warmth... that helps to develop new roots... Warmth and light prolly are a problem for you now, since you live in Canada.

Just my 2 cents :-)

Nicole

I am glad you posted this because my poor taida salu is having similar issue. i finally just cut the flower spike off and put it into much smaller pot that sits in another pot. It doesn't reach the bottom so I have some water int he bottom to hopefully help with humidity. I hope it grows new roots soon, i am a bit worried. Good luck with yours.
