Planting offsprings

A few months ago after one of my orchids flowered, I took the stem of the flower and placed it in water.

I now have a growth coming from the stem. Looks like the beginning of a new flower stalk.

Want to know, can I take the stem and plant it, and if so, what medium. All my orchids are basically in woodchips/air.
