repotted phal not doing so well

I repotted a phal some time ago with the kind help of many of you; maybe you remember, it's a phal that was packed tightly in moss and the roots were being smothered and had started to rot. I repotted it in bark and in a pot with multiple drainage holes. The plant immediately stopped dropping its flowers and I was really happy. But now I have noticed that the leaves look kind of leathery and without luster and I'm wondering whether the plant really recovered or not. The blooms have since withered;what should I do with the spike? Should I cut it back all the way or should I leave some of it? Also, could I possibly attempt a second repotting, this time to a plastic transparent pot so I can keep tabs on the roots? I would greatly appreciate your help (once again)

Hi Loreley, I don't know what you repottted to. I use terra cotta orchid pots or baskets where I am but I grow outside.
It may be that your plant is still just trying to adapt. Many here prefer the clear plactic pots and I suggest a bark mix over spag. I just can't regulate spag for moisture. But many do successfully. It is really just determining what works for you.

It's not getting enough water, going from tight sphag to coarse bark is a big shock for the roots, which are probably well adapted for a fairly wet environment. I would water it more often.

if you change from sphag moss to bark , this is a very common occurance. Since it move from a moist moss to a drier bark. Good news is that the rotting has stopped , bad news is it is not getting enought water. However, the new leaf will better that the present leave as it is adjusting to its present condition. I have done this so many time that i have lost count. Some given away , some sold... However, have you check your micro climate? Is your humidity more than 60%? it is a warm growing genus so you need high humidity and high temperature. Lower temperature in winter alway result in lower humidity (when you use heater , you get lower humidity. Put a humidity tray below the plant should also improve the conditon.

Just keep watering it. It will adapt. A good watering once or twice a week.
