Going on vacation for a week

Hi, What is the best way to handle vandas when gone for a week? Right now they are hanging in the trees in the back yard. I can put them closer to the sprinkling system and they'll get watered twice. Can I put a plastic bag aroung their roots? Would that help or hurt?

Actually, you could try to enclose the entire plant/s in a baggy from the cleaners, then put it in your house where the temperature is moderate and out of any sun. This is about like being outside with overcast skies for a week, and the humidity will be maintained until you get back. Just don't want to do this if they have very wet mix in their baskets just before being wrapped up. Just an idea.

Two waterings in a week will do just fine. I would worry more about enclosing the plant in plastic, it is too easy to encourage rot.

You can soak the plant for 4-5 hours before you leave and again when you return. I am working out of town just now and my vandas are getting watered only once a week. The heavy dew in the mornings in Florida right now is soaking the roots every day without further watering.

Thanks,
I took all my orchids and hung them in a shadier spot. They did fine. I'm soaking the vandas to replenish their root sytems.
