Repotting by a newbie

Hello to all! I repotted my little orchid this afternoon in hopes that it would start to get bigger! Are there miniature orchids? The marker on this one says it is Phal. Rhea. It seems so small. It never did drop its old blooms, they just sorta dried up and clung to the spike even though I tried carefully pulling them off before today. So I cut them off when I cleaned up the roots today. Should I cut the spike off too?

There are miniature phals with small leaves. What were the blooms like? The big pink and white flowers do not come on miniature phals.

Fresh medium does give a phal a growth spurt for several months, so repotting is a good idea. However: Be very sure that when you repot to a bigger pot, the bigger pot is the appropriate size for the roots you have. The pot should just fit the roots.

If you repot to a too-big pot you are putting the roots in serious danger of rotting off.

If you did put it into too big of a pot, take it out and repot it down right away.

Thanks mehitabel! The blooms were small purple ones. I am not sure about the size of the new pot! I used fir bark that I soaked for a few days & sphag on top to help retain the moisture! I may need to go back to a smaller pot afterall!
