| Tom, from what I can tell, this term is commonly used in reference to either comparing plants/mushrooms/fungi grown in petri dishes or flasks (enclosed containers) with same grown or the progression to, pots that are open to the atmosphere. I believe it is mostly a laboratory term. Someone can correct me if I'm incorrect..... mike |

| well the three experts have weighted in... it's bogus then... On Ebay, there was a dendrobium for sale and the description for a plant in a two inch pot was that it's best in an open culture. I thought I had missed something there since this definitely was not a flask containing orchids.
