What is this?

I just received a portion of a split orchid, but I don't know what kind it is. Could you all help me? What's the best way to take care of it? I've only had Phals till now.

Thank You.

You have a dendrobium orchid.

It's a hard cane Dendrobium and I would also like to know what it is growing in.

The potting medium looks almost like potting soil to me which would not be good for them Den.

It looks like a phal-type hybrid. The general culture for it can be found on the AOS culture sheet for Dendrobiums at AOS | Members Only Area

It should probably be potted in a bark mix rather then the peat or coir peat based mix it appears to be potted in now. Also I'd encourage you to repot it into a much smaller pot, approximately half the width of the one it is currently in.

Thanks so much for your advice. I'll get a new medium and repot it in a small pot.
