I have never heard of Voleck oil, may be someone else has, and I have not used Dursban. For scale, two products should work well, Bayer Advance Rose and Flower Insect Kiler Ready to Use, or Bayer Advanced Complete Insect Killer for Soil and Turf, which is a concentrate that requires you to attach the bottle to your hose end and spray big time. The later product has the same chemical as the first with a second chemical added (or at least with a higher level of the second chemical). I have a good report that the second product will not damage orchids, but it was not used on scale. For a small number of plants, the rose product will probably be preferable and many have noted success with scale on orchids. A very thorough spraying of the plant should be used with either. I do not recommend these products for mites should anyone else read this. Cynthia
