Unhappy Blooms Dropping w/o Opening

Our Phalaenopsis had 9 potential blooms on the stem. So far, 5 have whithered, turned yellow/pink, and dropped off w/o opening. This has happened about the last 4 times it has flowered. Many of the blooms will drop off without opening, and a few (maybe 3-4) will open and bloom for a long period. Any suggestions?

Tell us something about your environmental conditions. I have noticed two conditions in my area that will knock off phal blossoms and buds faster than you can say "Jack Robinson". :-) Hmmm.. wonder where that statement originated? :-) A very warm environment without any air movement and an air conditioned office sucking all the moisture out of the air. I'm sure there are others.....I have also noticed that phals do not like to be moved from one environment to another during the end of their bud forming/flower opening perod. For example - phals that have developed spikes and buds in my office from scratch seem to tolerate the office fairly well where plants I bring in from home "weep" (don't like it and tell me so by dropping buds and/or flowers).

Yes, I think that the Phal. in my son's east facing bedroom may be getting too much direct sunlight in the morning; just a guess though. I noticed that the stem with all of the buds on it was just about right up against the window. He has 3 orchids on his desk in that area, and all are doing well, including the Phal. up to the time that the buds should open, then most decide to fall off. I pulled the pot back from the window, and it looks like a bloom may open. Thanks for the info!
