You can probably leave it in the pot until the roots start to get out of hand. In clay balls and a small pot, you can probably water this very often. Try to find higher light than your Phals get. Humidity may or may not be a problem. I grow in a greenhouse, so we need to hear from someone who is growing a Vanda in their home. Cynthia

I grow Vandas in my home. I give them the same humidity as the Phals with the help of a humidifier and a little more light than the Phals. I hang them in a south window. I use a sheer drape put onto an adjustable rod that I can take out of window when it is not needed. I let them get the full morning light then at noon I put the sheers up and then around 3:00pm I take the sheers down.

As far as watering, I mist 2 times a day and soak in a pan of water for about 10 min. once a week. I add food to soaking water and I mix a very weak water solution with food and super thrive for the spray bottle for the misting.

They pretty much get the same temps as the others which is around 75 during the day and usually not more than 70 during the night.

Hope this helps.

Vandas require very high light levels around 8000 foot candles.

I grow mine outside year round without any shade in full southern light. (Mature plants) Here in SW Florida that is up to 11,000 foot candles of light. During the Winter here the light levels never get over 5000 foot candles even at noon sun.

Flowering Vandas indoors is a challenge.

It is fine to grow a young Vanda (or any young orchid) in lower light levels, but when it matures it will need a lot more.

It's a small vanda. 6 or 8 leaves in a 2" pot. It's in my somewhat shaded south kitchen window with additional light. It seems to be ok so far.I am on Galveston bay, on the mainland side. We don't get frost, too close to the water. But I would be afraid to leave it out this time of year so small. But it would be great if I could later. Thanks, Gladys
