Question My plants won't bloom /in missouri.

Greetings all.
I have been a member here for a while now but have not been able to get online much to see how much this site has changed.
I have a small collection of orchids; mostly phals; but U have one dendi and a paph which I bought from the orchid curator at the san diego wild animal park.
My dendi has grown 3 new canes but no blooms. Its roots adn colour and texture seem good just no blooms. This plant seems so healthy that whne it does bloom I expect to see at least two stalks.
Now my paph i purchased with a wilted bloomstalk and a plant bud.Since the bud has grown at least 8 large healthy well coloured leaves. It has a small root system but the plant seems well enough. It is at least 2 years old and also has not bloomed yet.
Any advice people?
phil

Hello!
I guess my first question would be ..where do you have the plants? Inside outside and what sun exposure are they getting. You'll get many more questions lol. Tara

Do either of them have a name? Different dens and paphs behave slightly differently and need slightly different conditions to flower. If they don't have tags could you possibly post a pic of them?

Yes pictures and a description of your growing environment would be very helpful. Please include light, watering habits, humidity, temerature, outdoor/indoor, natural light/artificial.

If your Phals are otherwise healthy and growing other orchid parts like roots and leaves, you probably have one or both of the following problems:

-Not enough light ....and/or.....
-Lack of a temperature drop of 10-15 degrees in the fall to set flower spikes

More info on your growing conditions will help greatly!

Hi Phil! I live about an hour's drive from you, but I spent most of my childhood in Spfld. It would help to know what kind of Dend. you have. I will tell you of the issues that I have with my Dends in the fall. About the time they start to set spikes, the temperature drops to the point that I have to bring them in the house. If I do not keep the light level high for them, I get less blooms, or an aborted inflorescence. I prefer to summer them outside, they like the light, the fresh air, and the rainwater. It also in my opinion, toughens them up a bit lol.

As for your Phals, what Phalpal said is true, not enough light, or temperature drop. I like to leave the window open on cool evenings to help change the temp to signal them to bloom.
