| Mangrove orchids is the common name given to the Bassavola family of orchids because they grow on mangrove tress. Bassavola nodosa is listed as a native North American species although I would not know where it is still wild. Here is a link you might find helpful http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.as...taxon_id=10638

| Jerry - Last week while buying potting material, I saw a Brassavola Little Stars so I bought it. The plant is very fragrant at night making the back part of the house the place to be. What are the special care instructions on these? Do they have a similar culture to Cattleya's in that I should let their medium go dry before watering again? Also, what about the getting them to bloom again. Any special tricks needed like cooler temperatures? Thanks!

| Manuel, I have to confess to an American mistake of refering to North America as North of Mexico. It is really insulting for me to think that way. I should have said the United States. I know it is all over Central America but an not sure it is still in the United States. By the way I have the Panama National flower growing in my back yard. I keep forgetting the name but my tenet who was born in Panama can tell me. It took some looking for me to find it as a present to her.

| I can tell you right away, Jerry. It's called "peristeria elata", the common name however among everyone down here is, "the holy spirit flower", because of the dove shape in the middle. Unfortunately it's rare to find it in the wild anymore. Still need to add it to my collection. It's one hell of a gift for a panamanian away from his native country. But, well, florida is just a 3 hour flight from here. Thanks for the recognition. It's nice to know there is people that know such subtle details about foreign cultures. Best regards manuel |

| Actually I bought it from a Panamanian Orchid company that was exhibiting at the Redlands Show in Flordia last June. I do not know what I did with his name, if I can find it I will send it to you. The plant is doing very well.
