Thank you, thank you, thank you

Thank you Cynthia, and Jerry. I followed your advice last May, and moved my Dendrobiums to the edge of the porch where they would get the most morning sun, and switched to a balanced fertilizer. Today I have flowers, at last !!! I really appreciate your help. Thanks again.

Smile NEWBIE!! Having trouble navigating site.

So far I love this site...when I figure it out!! I have lovely healthy Phal. (I just copied the pics for hangingit!!) I have had it for several months. The blooms finished, a friend told me to cut off between 2nd and 3rd notch down and I would get another "bloom branch". So I did. 6 months ago. about 3 months ago, got 4 leaves coming out. About a month ago got a "branch" sticking out at the new leaf cluster. It is light green and 1 1/2". Is this a "bloom branch"? Why is there so little, even here, about what I have just tried to explain. Something titled, "Encouraging Blooms on Your Orchid", or "When your Blooms are Done", or some such! THANK YOU!! Jean

I don't think we have much in the way of FAQs yet. This is a new site, and someone has to take the time to make some up. I did something on watering and bamboo skewers. But I don't have the time now to do much more.

If you want flowers, one needs to cut the bloom spike high, above the last node just before the first flower. The lower you go when cutting, the higher the chance of getting a keiki (baby), as you did. Are there any roots on your keiki yet? Since it has a spike and probably doesn't have enough leaf area or roots to support the spike, you probably need to leave everything in place until after the keiki blooms. But, when the keiki finishes blooming, take the spike off completely, so you can remove the keiki from the plant and pot it up. Cynthia

Thank you very much!! About how long does it take that 1 1/2" long thing to get blooms? The whole process takes about a year? Thanks again. Jean

I suspect about a month and a half, plus or minus a little. Cynthia
