Plz Help Beginner with Vanda Orchid

Hi,
I'm completely new to this website and to orchids. Last week I bought Vanda orchid, which was already in a bad condition, now have few questions:

First, where should the plant grow? It has little plastic "basket", but roots are way too big for it, well, all plant is placed in a massive glass vase. Should I keep it there?

Roots are not green and white colour, they are brown and I'm worried that they are drying up. Also few bottom leaves turning brown/yellow colour from the stem upwards, what is the reason for that?

How do u water Vanda?

Sorry if some of the questions are basic, but I need all the help I can get, as i really want to safe this beautiful plant.

Thanks

Do you have some gravel in the vase and some water in the gravel, but at a level below the top of the gravel, so as to provide a lot of humidity for the Vanda? Vandas should be soaked very well at the roots then allow to just get dry before doing it again. If you have good humidity in the vase, the Vanda should do well with a good, but short soak. If you have to grow the Vanda outside the humid vase, you might want to make the soak be a bit longer, 15 minutes to an hour or some such. Vandas like a lot of light. But you will have to be careful not to burn the leaves. See if you can give the plant 40 to 50 % light, but be careful, the vase may concentrate the light in places, or allow the air in the vase to get too hot. Cynthia
