Question Help Leaves at the top of a stem!

Hi

I'm new to the site and orchids have been in my house for a long time but I'm very baffled by this recent occurence, my Phalaenopsis Orchid was bought with white blooms but after about 18 months of nothing it has suddenly started sprouting leaves at the top of the stem there about 3 inches long now and I'm very confused

Can someone explain please!!

Kelly

that is called a Kiki, it is a baby plant you get to cut it off and plant it, it will grow up to be just like the parent plant...

The season fpr flowering is coming up. So maybe, atleast, you will have flowers this spring. If you don't see flowers spikes starting by December, we can go over the things to do to trigger blooms, or you can read some old posts on this. Cynthia

It often happens that if you let the plant form a keiki by not cutting the stem when it was finished flowering, that the plant will use all its energy to produce the keiki and not flower.

It is a trade-off to have more plants or more flowers.
