Pots and containers

Is there a thread here about which pot/containers works best for what orchids

My catt, milt and den are in clay orchid pots. I have them sitting in the goldfish
type bowls filled with small pea type stone. Is this ok:

Seeings so how I live in the Northeast everything is seasonal Most of my orchid supplies I get from Home Depot/Lowes. Walmart has some but
not many choices. The most common are Schultz, Miracle Grow and Expert. I
have had very good luck with all 3. I have seen some beautiful glazed pots
and was wondering about those or the decorative clay pots

Btw, I googled orchids in Maine and found out there is the Eastern Maine Orchid Society and an orchid show sometime in May. Now this could
be dangerous there's an orchid green house about 50 miles from
my house

Thanks

Sunshine, Not everyone is going to agree with me, but here is my two cents. I'm not sure the exact type of pot matters so much, (as long as it has good drainage), it's more the combination of media and the pot.

For example, a clay pot, with large chuck bark in a dry environment, does not work for me. It dries out way too fast. I am one of those people who has killed way too many orchids from underwatering. When i first started growing, everyone told me if you think it needs watered, wait a couple days and then water it. Wow, my definition of dry was very different from theirs. After a year of so of this, many sucumbed.

I have since learned to provide a combination of media and pot choice so that my orchids, under average conditions need watered once a week. (except for mounted plants) Average conditions for me is spring/fall. I do have to adjust for winter and summer.

As for your choices, the big box stores, that is where I get most of my stuff also. i do make a special trip for seedling bark and spag, but it is a three hour drive for me, so when i do it, I stock up. When I go into those stores, I let my imagination go, you would be surprised at what is available. For example, my mounts these days are untreated cedar shingles. I've been using these for a couple years and haven't lost a plant yet on them. A whole bale of them is $18 and gives me a couple hundred pieces, after I cut them down. (Well - my teenage son actually does the cutting) When i first thought to try them, I talked the manager into giving me some pieces from a broken bale for $2.00 - got about 30 mounts from them.

Anyways this was longer than I meant - sorry - but again, decide what your main watering schedule you want, within reason, and adjust pots/media to suit you.
