Newbie question #2

Repotted to well drained, bark filled pot. Looks happy, but the branches (off the main florescence (sp?) are withering, as is the top of the main florescence. Should I worry? is this the normal die-off/regrowth pattern? Also, there seems to be the start of a sprout growing out of the main florescence at the second node up from the leaves. Thanks for all your help. I've include this pic that was posted in my first question--maybe it'll help.

The normal die-off for blooms is for the first ones out to die off first - same order as they came out. When purchasing a plant in bloom you never know how long they were in bloom before you purchased them - days or maybe months. Assuming you soaked your bark ahead of time and there is plenty of moisture available for the plant - the leaves are still good and firm (not showing any limpness or striation of the surface) - I wouldn't get too excited.

The "Inflorescence" sounds fairly normal but how is it potted. Is that S/H or is it just planted in a glass container. Is there drainage?

Since my first post where those pics were posted, I've repotted into a clay pot (drainage holes at bottom and on sides) and repotted into bark medium. Plant seems happy. Leaves look good.

Yep, I soaked the bark, and examined the roots (since they were in the glass container)....roots looked really healthy!

Don't want to sound like a dork here, but could someone explain S/H? I know it's not the green stamps.

Green stamps! I remember my mom saving those when I was little! S/H is a way of growing plants in semi hydroponics. They grow in a container filled with absorbent kiln fired clay balls. (kind of!) There are some threads on here about that- I'll try to find one and post the link here!

Here's the link- Click on it! -> S/H method explained

Thanks Patti!

Yeah, those green stamps were everywhere when I grew up. Mom would come home from the store, put the stamps on the table, and call me. Guess who got to lick them and put 'em in the book? For the big sheets we would use a sponge.

From Wikipedia:

'S&H Green Stamps' (also called Green Shield Stamps) were a form of trading stamps popular in the United States between the 1930s and late 1980s. They formed a rewards program operated by the Sperry and Hutchinson company (S&H), founded in 1896 by Thomas Sperry and Shelly Hutchinson. During the 1960s, the rewards catalog printed by the company was the largest publication in the United States and the company issued three times as many stamps as the U.S. Postal Service. Customers would receive stamps at the checkout counter of supermarkets, department stores, and gas stations among other retailers, which could be redeemed for products in the catalog.

I think that's where we got my sister.

I used to collect S & H green stamps and got many things from them. Showing my age!!!

Glad to hear that your plant is doing well now.
