Buds?

This may be a silly question but what is the time frame for all buds on a spike to open? It's a Phal. I currently have 5 blooms on one spike with 5 remaining buds. I bought it with those 5 blooms open but havent seen any activity with remaining buds. There is also another spike with 4 blooms. Also both spikes branch and all of the branching only have buds. Just wondering if maybe it's stressed and wont finish opening since moving it from the nursery I bought it at. I then repotted it because I was scared of the moss it was in, packed so tight I couldn't check how wet/moist it was. Thanks for any input.

It is generally not advised to repot when a phal is in bloom.
But I understand you had to do it in order to check the medium for proper water maintenance.

If you remove a phal from a nursery while the buds have not opened, there is always going to be a chance of bud blast. There will never be a guarantee that your buds will not dry off and die. You just have to be very careful about temperature changes.

Your chances of bud blast has increased since u have repotted it. Taking it home from the nursery was already an environmental change shock. And now that you repotted the phal, it is another shock to the plant. You have disruppted/disturbed the already established root system it had.

So in other words, you have a 2/3 chance of bud blast. If you hadn't repotted it, it would have been a 1/3 chance of bud blast. All you can do now is hope that those buds won't blast. A dwindling hope, but hope never hurts anyone....unless you had great expectations =/

I have repotted while a plant is in bloom. If you're not ruff with it, it would be o.k.- Different paphs have different time frames of blooming. I bought one in bloom last June, and it still has blooms opening on it!!! Sheesh! Good luck with it!

They seem to take quite a while for the buds too open. Like Patti said if you were careful with it there should be no problems! You should have some confort that you now know what its potted in! Good luck!
