why

why do people recommend not over potting? I would think that extra space for root propagation which in the long run would mean a mre vigorous plant. Please enlighten a novice, thanks in advance.

The issue that usually comes with over potting is that the medium stays wet longer and can lead to root rot.

Those that grow in Semi Hydro find that they can over pot without risking root rot.

The plant expels too much energy trying to fill the pot with roots to the detriment of growth and flowering. A smaller pot means it will fill the pot with roots a lot sooner, and then as a result be able use its extra energy for growing and flowering.
