What might that be?

Hello everybody, newby here One of my Phals, that has bloomed nonstop for a whole year, is growing a new spike. It looks different than "normal" spike, though. Has any of you seen anything like that? First, it's much lower than the other spike. Too early for it to form flower buds, I think. The orchid is very healthy, has grown 3 leaves, has nice green roots and shows no signs of distress. Usually new flower spike shoots up quite tall before you see the formation of tiny flower buds. So, what might that be?

All answers and guesses will be appreciated!

I'm wondering if it's a spike with buds on the end and a keiki growing just below the buds.

Hard to tell but it could be a branch forming, if so you'll have even more blooms!!

Thank you! I was almost getting exited about a potential keiki (haven't seen how they grow before), but I got a feeling that this is some kind of mutation taking place. I got home after couple days and found that the spike has a tear (pictured), which has no explanation. There was nobody else here but my cat, who is not into orchids. Taking a closer look, it seems like the "thing" growing downward is hindering normal formation of a flower spike. Like an "evil limb." The spike with tiny forming buds is thin and short. Interesting. Still hoping to see some flowers.

And here's the outcome!

Hello everybody, I promised to let you know what this strange looking spike ends up to be. So here are the pics! You can still see the scar, where the "rip" was, but the stem grew and grew and blossomed into eleven-faced beauty There are three branches on this spike, total eleven flowers. It's one thing to buy a blooming orchid, but it's so rewarding to see your orchid grow a spike and blossom. Love my orchids, they make me smile every time I look at them! What a miracle that in the middle of the winter in a northern country, where there is so little light at this time of the year, these tropical beauties are happily blooming. Another reason to be thankful!!
