Watering when flowers are blooming
Finally after 3 full year both my orchids are growing shoots. One orchid even have 2 shoots coming out!!! Someone told me that I should stop submerging my orchids once flowers start to bloom. And the way to water the orchid is by spraying the medium very 2-3 days. How do you guys do it?
Currently what I am doing is submerge the orchid once a week, and fertilizer 3x per month.
Depends on the plant and the time of year.
1. If the plant is just forming a spike I just water it like I would any other time.
2. If it's in flower I usually bring them inside the home and sit them in trays so I can enjoy them all the time. I water around the foliage and make sure the flowers don't get moist at all.
3. If it's summer generally I don't care, the whole sprinkler system covers everything as the flowers dry off quickly.
That's pretty much it for me. I don't fertilise plants that are in flower but if the spike is just forming I do.
It works ok for me.
