Phychopsis care

I have a Phychopsis that I just bought and repotted and want to know if I should leave it dry out before watering.

Ha! I hope you get some good information from this post. There must be some psychopsis experts on here! I bought a Kahili earlier this year that promptly turned up its toes and died when I brought it home. I have been trying to revive it from the still-green bulbs, but it's been pretty slow for the minimal results I've gotten so far.

It depends on what medium you are using, I think. I use small red lava rock and a basket pot so I water well, it drains and dries quickly and I water again. It doesn't like to get too dry and, yet, if you have a medium that is too compact, the roots will rot. I grew it under lights this past year and nearly killed it because the medium dried out too quickly. It is recovering very nicely, though, after all the heavy rains we had earlier in the summer and my daily watering. I have been growing my Psychopsis Mendenhall 'Hildos' for about five years, since it was not long out of flask, and, until growing it under the lights, never had any problems with it. Good luck with yours!

Psychopsis are generally one of the easier orchids to grow. The hybrids are much more sturdy than the species.

They like water and mine are grown in Sphag unless my supplier ships in a bark sphag mix.

They do not like re-potting and I leave mine in the original pots for many years.

Of the 500 or so I have owned over the past years I do not think I have lost more than about 20
