Phal Leaf and Spike

5 Attachment(s)
Hi everyone.

Here are some photos of a new leaf on each of my phals.

I'm also posting a photo of what I think may be a spike? There are 2 similar bumps but only one shows up in the photo. The other is at the bottom left. They don't seem to be growing at all. Is it a spike and do they grow slowly? Is there anything I should be doing to help it along?

Thanks
A

your Phals look pretty good
I think the far right pic has the start of new roots coming.

Nice and healthy plant.

I agree with fred . It is a root starting out.

If it is a spike then yoru Phal is blooming out fo season. Usually the spikes are initiates in Autumn when there is a good day-night temp drop and they bloom in winter.

I have noticed that Phals tend to spike in leaf crotches or at least along that asis of the plant like the little green bump on the left while roots often come form other places like the one on the right.

We;ll just have to wait and see what happens.

There is also a bump on the other side. How long do they take to grow? The leaf is clearly growing but the bumps seem to be the same size every day! Will post more pics when I notice a change. Should I use fertilzer at every watering because there is new growth?

Like most things "orchid" the roots as well can grow very slowly or on the other hand quite rapidly if they are in ideal conditions - warm and humid might favor some faster growth? The leaves of your plant look nice and firm/healthy. Good job! Looks like it is going through a nice rebuilding phase. mike
