Orchid ID please

Hi all, I have just flowered this nice little orchid and wonder if anyone could clarify the name for me please? I believe it might be a Dendrobium Pierardii but it is not quite like the pictures of that variety I have seen. Any ideas please. This is grown in Queensland, Australia

Dendrobium pieradii (Small letter as it is a species plant) has hanging flowers and tend not to have a trumpet like lip as yours has. They also tend to be very small, compact flowerers, your flowers look too big and looks more like a brassiolaelia cross IMO.

I'm not familiar with this species at all - but if you are patient you can go through the list on orchidspecies.com and see if anything looks like a match? How about http://www.orchidspecies.com/orphotd...raphyllum.jpg?

I agree with Anton. What you will find is that this has been renamed to Den. aphyllum.

re: Orchid ID please

Thanks all for taking the time to reply. I will keep looking and perhaps will come across it one of these days. It certainly looks more like a Den. aphyllum
rather than a brassiolaelia but in the meantime it is a very pretty little orchid and makes a good show hanging in my orchid house.
Regards. Marj.

Definitely a Den...but which one, I don't know.

It could very well be a cross and if that's the case then you will likely never know for sure what you have..other than the Den designation. If you remember where you got it then you could check w/the grower/seller to get a definitive ID.

Personally, I wouldn't waste time looking through pics on the web because, unless the plants is definitely a species and one that has unique characteristics, then you can never be sure the ID would be correct.
