Hardware store rescue, trying to ID

Hi there!

So I was at the hardware store when I noticed this guy hanging out in the nursery section.. and not looking very happy. I got em 50% off.. but no idea what species it is! I could tell it was of the Vanda alliance, but thicker waxy leaves with small stripes.. and after looking around online I think it may be a Rhynchostylis or more likely an Aerides.

Can anyone help me ID this little guy to species?

This was the only flower left that wasn't totally wilted.

Thanks!

Without a tag it's virtually impossible to give a proper ID. Can you post a picture of the whole plant?

It's hard to tell, but based on the leaves it looks to me more like a Phal species (or maybe a primary hybrid) than a Vanda. Possibly a Phal. deliciosa? Take a look at this: Phalaenopsis species by alphabetical order. It has photos of the Phal species as well as their primary hybrids and different varieties.

Thanks for your responses!

Here are some more pictures. The flower spike is short and seems to be facing downward giving, this was originally in a hanging basket, which I will probably return it to once it perks up. This makes me think is some type of "foxtail" orchid of the Vanda alliance.

Leaves are thick, and striped. The dorsal sepal appears to totally cover the anther cap and is pointed posteriorly. This makes it appear the flower has two petals, a lip, and two lateral sepals- giving it a kind of star shape? The dorsal sepal is there, just bent over the center of the flower looking somewhat like a bell.

I will follow up with a few pictures I've found online that look the most similar to it.

Thanks!

Here is a picture online of something that looks somewhat similar (stripes in leaves, downward facing spike)

hm yeah seeing the whole plant it does look like you are right. Looks like it might even be a Rhynchostylis gigantea (just not the purple var. you posted!). Hope it recovers for you, looks like it should be a lovely plant!
