Masdevallia herraadurae !!

I have had ups and downs lately. For the most part, life is good! I was tired after getting home tonight, but had to photograph and post these pics! I haven't had a lot of luck with Masdevalias. I get a bloom here and there, but have just kept them alive. I killed my Masdevallia yungasensis 'Peppermint' AM/AOS, that I got from my OS trip this year. My herraadurae kept hanging on, and getting new growth, but I watched others get blooms, with envy. (Brooke, I showed him your herraadurae photo!! ) I was so excited when it started to bud, but was afraid to say too much for fear that it would blast. Here it is!

My other Masdies don't do as well. I grow this in the basement under lights. It gets pretty warm here in the summer, too. Thanks for your kind words, Jay!

Good job Aren't those blooms just the cutest things.

Sorry to hear about your yungasensis, the cold growers are really tough unless you grow them in a refrigerator I have a primary hybrid from the yungasensis named Lucky Stripe that is easy to grow - you should look for that one to get a stripe fix Or the one Fred posted, Charisma another beautiful striped one

From the looks of that plant, you'd never know you've had problems with others. It is so beautiful and healthy looking. I haven't had the courage to try masdie's yet, maybe.....

This Masdie was a growing project. How is everyone else's doing? I know several have posted blooming plants. I'd be curious about the success rate. I struggled with mine the whole time and it went kerplunk when Bobo the cat assassinated it.

But Bobo is so cute, it's ok! I think that living where it's cooler has few advantages, but this may be one!

Brooke, Thanks! Coming from you, I'm flattered! When I saw yours a few months back, I was stunned! I'll look for the one you suggested. They live in my basement. It rarely gets over 70F and in the winter it's more like 60 or so down there. The yungasensis must not have wanted to leave where it was...

WOW! hey, Patti - what have you been feeding your plants to get it to do that??? that's just incredible - great growing, Patti!

has anyone else's on the West Coast bloomed? so far i'm seeing only folks on the other coast coming into bloom. perhaps it needs a period of cooling?

the blooming window is ending for us and nothing on my plant yet so i'll just have to be content w/ pictures!

FANTASTIC What a beautiful healthy plant Patti.

You have also given me new hope as I have one or two Masdies - all healthy - but not yet flowered. How cool do they need to be????
