For the Masd Project | General Masdevilla and Masd. Herr. culture notes...

hi, all -

as we are all embarking on this project together, i'm going to post:

AOS | Masd. Culture Sheet

and my own research on what Masd. Herra. requires:
Masdevallia herradurae

A delightful floriferous miniature Masdevallia with clumping 3" long, narrow light green leaves, many short single flowered spikes appear simultaneously to the height of the foliage bearing lovely 2" dark red/purple blooms, the slender dorsal sepal is held perpendicular to the slender lateral sepals, quick to form into small mass-blooming specimen plants.

BLOOM - Summer, Fall Blooming

LIGHT - Shade; 500-1500 Footcandles (indirect low light, slight shadowing); Phalaeopsis light requirement acceptable

TEMP - Intermediate; 55F min. to 85F max. (does best at temps maxing 75 - 78, by my research); air circulation a must.

WATER - Moist; 3-5 waterings per week (let dry lightly between waterings)

MEDIUM - sphag, fine bark, perlite mix or all sphag acceptable

ADDITIONAL - grows into specimen plant quickly and is tolerant of repotting; cinnamon fragrance to flowers
good luck w/ growing your plants and post your progress!

I have just make this "Sticky" very helpful
a little tip for the summer heat with my masdivallias I have them placed outside in my GH and I have a shelf about 8 inches off the floor growing almost in total shade.
I have all my masdevallias in total sphagnum moss
I find with good air movement and with the masdies being so low to the floor they don't get as warm ( heat rises ) if I had my masd placed on the normal shelf I don't think they would last the summer even here in Tasmania
