Hello from Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom.

Hi,

I have been very interested in Orchids since buying my first in 2005. A Vuylstekeara Cambria that is now nearly twice the size it was when I first bought it. Since then 17 others have been added to my list, the most recent being a Vanda 'Opal Angel' which was a birthday gift from my son. Most of my modest orchid collection is scattered around my house with a few in my conservatory, including 3 Vandas.

I am especially looking forward to reading Orchid cultural advice given to others, and no doubt will be asking for some myself.

LadyV

Hi all.
shortage or orchid growing space.
A big problem!!.
Well a few years ago a lady friend of mine asked her husband to build her a new orchid house.
He was not an orchid grower so he built her a small one.
This she put up with for several years, unable to get the husband to extend or build another.
Now women are not as slow as us men, so after a lot of thought she asked her husband to build a outdoor fully enclosed sunroom were they could entertain there friends year round.
Now hubby jumped at this wonderful idea and built a "you beaut" sun room.
So with xmas aproaching they set about putting in the lights, heater, a sink to wash up in etc.
The day of the party was soon here and with 25 people comfortably sitting in it and enjoying the day.
The wife got up and made a big thank you speech.
She congratulated her hubby on his wonderful building ability's, and also for building this wonderful Orchid House for her as a Xmas present.
I am sure their must be some moral to the story in there some were.
Good Growing
Ron

LadyV! It's good to have you with us! You must have some good windows to grow Vandas. I look forward to hearing more about your plants.

Good morning LadyV, you are most welcome to the happy geek forum. The members are by turn happy, sad, crazy, and overjoyed at the sign of the smallest spike growing on their favourite orchid. I have memories of sitting in a punt on the Cam on a summer afternoon; so delightful for an expat. Happy growing!

Bill

My Vandas

Hi Patti,

I have three Vandas which grow happily by a large west facing window in my conservatory, all three hanging from a clothes frame on castors. Vanda 'Elizabeth', V. 'Blue Magic' and V. 'Opal Angel'. I take them outside for a daily morning spray, hanging them up to drip-dry before returning them to the conservatory. Most of my other orchids are on window ledges facing west or south, a few are quite happy facing north. A few more are kept with the Vandas in the conservatory together with cacti and my husband's collection of geraniums and carnivorous plants. We have our work cut out caring for them all.

V.

That's really great! So there's hope for me someday to grow Vandas if I get the right setting.

Hello, I'm a new member too. And I'm so much enjoying this site. I have already got so much good information that I could not find in any of my books. Yesterday I made my compost drip tray for my warm tea. I'm very exited hopefully it'll be successful. It's also very nice to see lady V here as most of the public here is from very far away and by the sound of it got perfect conditions growing there orchids.
