Hello to all of you orchid lovers.

I have enjoyed looking at orchids all of my life, they are so beautiful.
I have hesitated buying one as I feared they would be difficult to care for.
I finally bought one that had one blossom and quite a few buds, it ended up with 14 blossoms.

I am now wanting to buy another as the first one has now lost all of its blossoms.

Anyhow, good to be among other orchid lovers.

Mike

Welcome to the forum. Growing orchids is a fascinating hobby. Before you buy another orchid assess the conditions you can offer it. Do you have a south, east or west facing window? Light is the most critical factor in what type of orchid you can grow. You can adjust the temperature and humidity fairly easily. So armed with this knowledge, you will have better success in selecting orchids that will grow well under your conditions.

Sun exposure

I have a garden window that faces north.

My moth orchid seemed to flourish OK with this setup.

A north window has the least light of all the exposures. Moth orchids, or phalaenopsis, should grow well in that light. However, it may not be enough light to initiate a flower spike. It will depend on what part of the country you live in. You will have to wait and see.

I live on Oklahoma City. We get a fair amount of sun, sometimes too much. It was 108 F last week.
