Hello everyone,

My son, Jay, is on this forum and introduced me to orchids. I started with two Phals that he gave me 3 years ago that have bloomed faithfully every winter. For my birthday this year he took me to Hoosier Orchids to pick out something other than plain white Phals. Here is a list of my new orchids.

Prosthechea radiata - in bloom, smells like candy
Prosthechea cochleata - two blooms
Paph. sukhakulii - out of bloom, two new growths
Dtps. Anna-Larati Soekardi - Mini Phal type
Dossinodes Indra's Net - A jewel orchid
Ludisia discolor var. nigrescens 'Ambrosea' - A fragrant jewel orchid


I will post some pictures when I get enough posts to do so.

Hi Lady Slipper. You are so lucky to have your son, Jay to guide you.
I am also a Newbie and I think I read too much on there Boards. I'm a nervous wreck as to what to do when I need to repot etc. Going to try to go out to Hoosier Orchid soon to maybe pick up a few hints.
I've been trying to get some information on the AOS meetings in Indy but can't reach anyone.

Your new Orchids sound wonderful can't wait to see photos.

Hi Jay's mom! I want one of the Ludisia discolor var. nigrescens 'Ambrosea too! Leon showed me them last weekend as I have another of his jewel hybrids. They are so cute! I find jewel orchids very rewarding to grow simply because they grow like crazy and they have beautiful foliage. The flowers are so tiny and perfect I bet you will just love them. I'm glad to meet another person from Indianapolis! Enjoy your new plants! Can't wait to see pictures!

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I find it funny that you all call me Jay's mom because I almost chose that for my screen name.

Kid a - Which hybrid do you have? Neither of mine are in bloom yet. I love how the leaves look like there is electricity running through them.

evagentry - I don't know how good he is, I am now addicted to another hobby.

Kmarch - I am really enjoying my orchids. I am lucky that I have an inside line to Jay. I walked around the greenhouse and picked ones that caught my eye. Then Leon (from Hoosier Orchids) and Jay let me know if they would work in my conditions.

Excellent! This is definietly the way to go! Buy orchids that will work in the conditions you already have! I've only been to Hoosier orchids a couple of times but I loved it! And Hoosier's consistently puts uo some of the best show displays I have ever seen.
