 New Here - Introduction Hello! I"m never sure what to say in these! hahahaha My name is Maryann & I live in Western NY. My husband is currently 1/2 way through his year long deployment in Afghan...it is VERY bad there right now... I came here today because he sent me some beautiful orchids as a gift, they are a boquet though, not a plant. I am looking to find an exact plant of the ones he gave me and take care of it. I have a green thumb for green plants, I have tons...but I have not had too much luck with flowering plants. I do have an African Violet that I have kept for about 2 years ow though. YAY! Thanks guys! I have a post about the orchids I am looking for on a different thread & I put up 5 pictures of them in my profile albums. THANKS!

 Maryann! Good to have you with us! There are many threads to browse through to get advice. If you can grow african violets, you can grow most orchids! (except maybe Vandas-Lol) Ask questions, that's what we're here for. Nice to meet you!

| Hello and welcome to the forum, again. I guess I did this in the wrong place. I posted in your other thread before I saw you introduce yourself here. Anyway I suggested that you look at some Phalaenopsis orchids if you liked the shape of the Vanda flower. They are in the same alliance and have some flowers that have similar shapes. |

| Hi MaryAnn and welcome. My sister was in the Air Force until the end of last year. It takes special people to be in the military. Wishing your husband a safe return from the deployment. This is a great site full of nice people. Glad you found us.

| Welcome! I'm curious what types are in the boquet. Hopefully lots of different ones so you can get hooked on all types of orchids!

| Yeah, military life is something...a little different for us since we are National Guard and not on a base. There was just one kind in the arrangement. Kmarch on here said it looks like a Mokara...it is pink with spots and a longer petal. I put 4 pictures in an album. Thanks guys!
