Smile Hello from sunny San Diego

Hello all. I have this compulsion to collect and plant seeds when I find/buy them. Most of my attempts have been with palms, but as fate would have it, I was recently given an orchid with a seed pod attached. Now I'm here to learn how to germinate orchid seeds.
Thanks in advance,
David

Hi and welcome. What kind of orchid? I have read that most if not all orchids need to be germinated in a sterile environment with specialized equipments and medium required. I actually bought 3 epidendrum pods off e-bay and after learning all the process to flask them, I just sprinkled the seeds around my garden just for the hell of it. Ha! Ha! Of course nothing happened. No miraculous orchids grew.
Maybe someone with more knowledge will post advice for you on the seeds. Good Luck!

Is it true that seeds from a terrestrial orchid can be germinated in peat with a little Root Take powder, using the baggie method?

Hi David It's good to have you with us! I tried to start some terrestrail seeds. (Bletilla striata) -Check out the thread- Starting ellen's seeds- It isn't an easy process, and I just lost them all....They had been doing well for several months. I have grown many "difficult" seeds, but I'm going to leave my orchid seed pods to the expert flaskers! BTW- I even started some Zygo cactus seed that I had crossed! I'll post the up-date later tonight. TOO cool!
Anyways, It's great to meet you!

Hello and welcome to the forum. Sorry I don't know much about planting orchid seeds, but if you enjoy the hybridizing part then you are going to love orchids.

Thanks for all the help. I'm gonna take this to propagation. Edited to say Orchid flasking / seed germination.
BTW is there a way to transfer a quote to different forum?
David
