Smile Hello everyone

I just joined the forum today and I'm really happy about it because I can see that we truly share this thing about orchids! I'm originally from Chile, but I have lived in this country for 27 years already (I can't believe it) and by the look of it, here's where I'll stay. I live in New York City and about 3 years ago I attended the yearly orchid show here in Manhattan, and that was it, I fell in love with orchids. I spent quite a few of my hard earned dollars in 3 or 4 of those babies: a phal, a dendrobium, a cattleya and a "lady's slipper"(paph?). For a time all went well, until the flowers fell off the plants, and that was it. Only the lady's slipper ever flowered again, but this year even that one didn't. I live in an apartment with windows facing west. I guess the worst problem is the heating and the air conditioning, but I can hardly do without either, can I? Any tips about how to maintain the best possible conditions for the plants, given the circumstances?
Thanks a lot!!

Hello and welcome to the forum!

The Dendrobium and the Cattleya are not going to get enough light to bloom from a West window in the Northern Hemisphere. They may grow and do great, but probably won't bloom. As for the Phal and the Paph, they will usually bloom under low light. If they are not, then they too might need a little more light.

You have had them for 3 years? Have you repotted them since? Do you have any pictures?

!! It's good to have you with us! There are many reasons that plants don't bloom again... probably the biggest is not enough light. Good luck... If you read through the past posts, you can learn a lot!
