Smile hello from south florida

hello.

I live in Miami and my orchid obsession started 5 years ago with an oncidium that I purchased for my husband. I grow them in the yard, mostly on palms and trees.I have approximately 150 plants. I have killed some, but most thrive. Snails are my enemy, followed by the dreaded thrips. My pride and joy is my dendrobium bracteosum which has been in constant bloom for the past two years and my gramatophyllum speciosum.

Talking

My parents live in Ocala. Does that count? I would loooooooove to grow orchids on trees, but the best I can do is mount them and let them grow and flower like they would in their natural habitat.Siiiiiiiggggggghhhhhhhhh!!

Can't wait to see some pictures when you can post? Your yard probably looks like a jungle, a beautiful jungle, lol.

BTW a big welcome to the forum from all of us! We're happy to have you with us and look forward to sharing and learning--both ways.

Welcome!

I'm in Weston. I too have been collecting more and more orchids since I moved here from Wisconsin (3.5 years ago). My biggest enemy is thrips. My vandas have not bloomed in a year. Every time a bloom starts developing it turns into a brown stalk. I have treated with Bayer 3 in 1 but have had no luck getting them to bloom.

good luck with all of yours,
NancyG
