Help, i'm a newbie in need!

I've just started growing orchids for the first time, and i have decided to dive headlong into it by starting my own asymbiotic-germination seed propagation line. this sounds technical, i know, but it just means i'm pollenating orchids and growing the seeds that they produce. my question is, does anyone know a half-decent, homemade growing medium recipe!?! its just that i bought AUD$50 worth of agar and don't want to let it go to waste. thanks for having the consideration to consider helping a newbie like me, and even more thanks to anyone who can help me with my little dilema,
401820 (i have a terrible memory, so had to use my Student ID instead !)

Hi 401820 ! You are a brave soul! I've done some hybridization of many plants in the past and have just done a few crosses with orchids. I'm looking into labs that will do my flasking for me. It's a very delicate operation. I'm sure that folks here will have advice on the best source for doing the flasking yourself. I was just reading some on it in "A Complete Guide to Orchids" put out by Miracle Grow from meredithbooks.com. Just about any good orchid book has a section that covers the subject.
Good luck... Do you have an orchid cross that you're going to be working with? Keep us posted..

woops! i forgot to add, the plants are phalaenopsis hybrids. the mother is pinkish purple, while the 4 fathers are:
white with yellow centre/"jaw thingy";
white with red centre/"jaw thingy";
another one of the same type as the mother;
and lastly, a beautiful peach with purpleish pink veins and orang-ish centre/"jaw thing".
Sorry, i can't get pictures as the four fathers have already sold (i work at a garden centre in canberra, australia). thanks for the help though. much appreciated!
