| Hello from Ohio Hi everyone..Awesome fourm,Im loving it already.I been lurking here for a few weeks now,and learned so much already on here, and finally thought it was time to join.Im new to orchids, and still have much to learn about these wonderful plants.I got my first orchid over a month ago,and liked it so much,I had to get 3 more the following week.and theres no question in my mind ,that I will be getting more..so I might be turning into a orchiaholic soon..all of them are Phalaenopsis..and all seem healthy at the time....I think...ill let you be the judge.I also read somewhere that Phalaenopsis are good for the beginers.and thats me.and thats what I wanted to start out with.I live in a townhouse,so they will always be kept indoors,in front of a south side window, with not much full sun comming in, so artificial lighting was added.each one has a different kind of soil in them"bought each one at a different nursery",so some need watering more often than others.they are all in flowering now,I read some threads that has some great advise here, and hope to learn more.thanks for having me here on your fourm."orchidgeeks"..hahaha...nice name. Regards Cruz |

| Hi again, Thanks for the welcome everyone....to all around the world....it,s nice to see some orchid geeks here in ohio.and others around the world as well...I live in Marion ohio...north of columbus..and yes!!.it would be nice to keep track of our purdy orchids here in ohio,to see how well they do,and the techniques that keeps them healthy around here in our zone..we can share our secrets to keeping healthy orchids...but im a newbe...so I dont have any yet!!...hint!!..will get to that later. I see wonderful photo,s in here(I love pics toO)..some of them needs some picture frames around them in here.I never new there were so many different kinds of orchids in so many colors....I really been missing out threw the years...Ill dust off my 4.0 pixel camera off soon, and take some pics of the ones i got now, and share, like you all do here, and show you where they will be grown at indoors in my apartment..and pics of them threw time.I have always been a plant freak threw my hole life,..got over 50 house plants now....plant freak=cruz!!!.im not new to them..but I am new to orchids..and there demands to keep them healthy for years to come...I never kept anything that would flower inside, I didnt think I was gettin enough light to make them flower..but im gonna fix that...I planted a tomato seed back in feb as a ginny pig,to see if i could make it flower inside buy the window...it never did untill 4 feet later ,,and 4 inches from a compact fluorescent,it flowerd today.so Im thinking ,my orchids may not flower, untill i give them more power...there are flowers on them when I bought them....but I need to keep them going. I have been into coral reef tanks almost 10 years now..as these take a high demand of light to keep them as well...got 250 watts on a 20 gallon...my living room is one bright room from it....now its time to light up my ochids,I want some more flowers..and think I have everything to do it with....just gotta put it togather. Again!!...thanks everyone...when I get enough post on here!!...Ill show pics of my project ,the set up for my orchids, and ill have plenty of questions sometime soon.theres some great people here..as a orchid could bring new friends.....Have a great day. | Cruz, My Zygopetalum orchids are on a counter by an east facing window. No direct sunlight hits them. My Phalaenopsis NOID and my vanilla bean orchid cutting are on a shelf on the North side of the Florida Room. NO direct sunlight hits that area at all. They are on the same shelf as all my Christmas Cactus. Joanne, I-271 and Route 8 Northfield, Ohio |
