Hi from the Caribbean

My wife and I recently started collecting orchids, recently being the last two months or so. We have what we think are 5 phalaenopsis plants. We got them from my wifes employer who seems to kill them, I think it's because she has them at a seaside restaurant. That's by the by, we got 5 orchids out of it.

I'm looking into getting a vanda, it's located in my mothers backyard. It's growing like weed between her golden palms. Any ideas when it should be cut or taken? What should we look for before doing anything?

Regards
Sean

Hello and welcome to the forum. Is the vanda growing there naturally? I have never seen an orchid growing in nature or out of the ground. If it is growing there naturally I don't know if you should pull it up. I think it would be better to buy one than remove it from it's place. Do you have any pictures you can show us of your phals or the vanda?

It's growing there naturally, I don't have any pictures of the phals yet, but I do have one of the Vanda. I'll post the link to it when I get it on a website.

Hi and welcome to the forum Sean. Ah, the Barbados. What a wonderful place to be and
grow orchids. Are you from there originally or did you move there?

Yep I was born here. An endless summer does get somewhat old after a while though. The upside is the orchids seem to like it.
