Hi--Should Have Introduced Myself

Hi,

I recently posted on your board asking for help with my Phalaenospis and got some very good advice back. I should have introduced myself.

My name is Erin. I live in Portland, OR and am about to graduate from Reed College. I'm a plant person (grew up on a farm and plant nursery), love to garden and keep houseplants, but I didn't try orchids until my boyfriend gave me one last summer. I've always heard that they could be hard and that a lot of people have trouble getting them to re-bloom; but my first orchid has been so pretty and so much fun to learn about that I'm determined to figure it out. I've recently acquired seven more. They're all young and aren't old enough to flower, but I figured that this should be a good way for me to learn how to keep and make them happy. If I do things right maybe they will bloom!

I remain impressed by these plants and the people who are able to successfully cultivate them.

Thank you all for being so eager to share your experience, knowledge, and questions. I have already learned so much and I love your forum.

Best,
Erin

Hehehhee.

And so the addiction begins.....

Welcome to the forum!!! What you will find is that you will miss the blooms and want to buy more just to see them. A wonderfully bad habit we all have

Hello Erin and welcome to the forum!

As Jenny said, the addiction is beginning. Never hesitate to ask questions, there are a lot of people here with a ton of information to share. You could probably teach us a thing or two with your background working with plants in a nursery.

Hope to see pictures of your orchids.

Yes, welcome Erin. You are not alone by a long shot. We all love orchids and want more, more, more! Nice to meet you. Oregon is beautiful. Went to The Gorge area once. Very green and beautiful.

Welcome to the forum Erin. We have about five great orchid shoes in the valley here from February through the first of April. You will have to catch a few next year. Also a couple in the fall that I can think of - one in Portland in October and another in Seaside about the same time. Enjoy!

Hi, Erin! Welcome to the Geeks! I had always heard that orchids were difficult, too. They aren't at all if you give them what they want! Look forward to chatting with you in the future!

Can't wait to become an orchid geek myself...
