Thanks. One other thing- just in case it is of interest to anyone- I keep my orchids in an east facing room- most of them on the window sill. They are all in their plastic pots placed inside decorative terracotta pots with a layer of gravel in the bottom. These then sit in a window tray, also covered by a layer of gravel that I spray to aid humidity. I have heard mixed stories about having orchids sitting ontop of a layer of gravel, so any comments would be gratefully appreciated! Uko

Hello, Ukolele! I'm a N.Y. yank of Scottish descent. Welcome to the forum! The gravel inside the clay pot is probably not so necessary, as the plastic pot inside the clay pot is mainly for stability. I think the humidity tray under your plants for the most part is a good idea, but during the summer the humidity is probably quite high in Scotland (much like here in N.Y.) and maybe not as necessary. I always worry about spilling the gravel. Whatever works though is great. Happy growing and we love pictures! ![]()

Hi Welcome. I spent part of my honeymoon in Edinburgh. Lovely city. I have all my inside orchids on trays of pebbles that stay wet after watering. Gives them a little more humididty during the winter. During the summer the humidity is pretty well balanced in this area and they all stay outside

Thanks for the warm welcome! I will get around to photos eventually- only three are in flower at the moment though, so the others aren't very exciting. And to be honest the cymbidium flowers are on the way out and a bit scabby! Will also wait for a sunny day to get some nice light. I could wait a while, it is Scotland after all.

Here are a couple of pictures of my orchids that are currently in flower. They're not in a good place to take photographs so I've just taken photos of the flowers for you. The orangey one is very shy- is has two flower spikes that face in opposite direstions making it very difficult to position! Uko Spot 1.jpg orangey.jpg
