| Hi jkanj. Yes, I've heard that Thailand has orchids growing whereever you look. My brother built a home on Phuket and says they grow wild in his back yard. Can only imagine. You'll need to be more specific with the help you're seeking. I'm sure you'll get all the advice you need right here, to get them back into pristine conditions. Ask away... |

| Hi everybody thanks for the warm welcome, in a few days i will be posting some pictures of the orchids that I have now, I don't think they are in very good shape now though as no one is taking care of them. I will be doing so though as I really do something coz i love looking at the lovely flowers, the ones here don't have any flowers now. I don't think i can tell you the whole problem without showing you the pictures first, My questions for now is, could i possibly grow orchids and make them healthy using natural fertilizers? I really would wanna do away with using chemicals as fertilizer? Someone told me that dried coconut husk would be great and I heard that egg shells are helpful have any of you heard of these methods? |

| Can't wait to see pictures! ![]() I've heard of adding eggshells. It's suppose to add calcium to the medium. Coco husk is a great medium to use. Soak it and pre wash it really well before use. (contains salt and needs to rinsed out.)

| Thanks for the 411 Dear Articuno, I appreciate a lot your input on the eggshells and coconut husks, I noticed in the leaves of some of the orchids there is a onion skin like covering, what is that? I know some of these orchids have been left to fend for themselves so i think it's because they din't get any water at all that they look so dried out, I'm trying to water them constantly now but, there seem to be a lot of this onion skin substance, is it really a bad thing? i feel really clueless but i do enjoy the work that i've been putting in. jkanj |

| Jkanj~ the "onion skin" that you see is just sheathing and is from older growth. This is fine. Quote:
Please post pics so that we can be of further assistance.

Dendrobium aggregatum. It is suppose to dry up and finally flower. Now you have to force to "think" dry and bloom. |
