Hello fellow green-thumbs, plant geeks, not-so green thumbs and all other orchid fanatics. This is my first time visiting this forum officially and I hope that I may be able to contribute insight by sharing my planty experiences (both successes and failures). I currently have about thirty orchids, but as you know the more you get, the more you desire to expand your collection. I look forward to learning tips and tricks from you all. Cheers ![]() Andy Barnes

Thank you all for such a warm welcome! To answer some of your questions about species in my little collection...I have Phals, dendrobiums, oncidiums, miltonias, catts, paphs, some hybrids and a Chysis that I am really curious about. I received one of my dendrobiums as a gift (believed to be Dendrobium kingianum) and I have yet to see it bloom. It does however grow vegetatively quite rapidly and it is constantly throwing off new shoots from the terminal bract area of the shoots. The Chysis bractescens is one I would really like to see bloom. The pseudopods are 6-9" long and it is a relatively large plant. Any tips on these two problem children are especially appreciated. I'll try to post some pics when time allows and I can figure out how to do it. Thanks again for being so nice everyone.

One more thing...I live near lake Michigan and about the end of May or early June (hopefully I'll have the adding photos thing down by then) there is a park near my home that has a massive number of wild pink lady slippers. When that time comes around I'll set up a photo hike through the park for all of you to enjoy. It truly is spectacular...at least I think so.

Andy: Welcome to the forum. We'd love to see more pictures of the wild pink lady slippers in Michigan. I believe that we have another member who once was kind enough to share pictures of these beauties. You can update your profile to show your location by going into the User CP and update your information. You'll have lots of fun here and there are extraordinary moderators and fellow geeks to help you with your orchid questions. Look forward to seeing your pics of your collection.

| Welcome Andy, always glad to see another Michigander. It sounds like you are a part-time northern Michigan resident too. John
