Welcome to OrchidGeeks shiningrock. Can you update your Profile to include your location? How long have your been growing orchids? What else do you have in your collection?

LOVE your Potinara... very cool colors!

Just updated my profile. I started about two years ago with three orchids ( one phal BS, and two catts very small didn't bloom yet). Little while ago I decided to get more of small to medium plants to have more chances of having flowers in my home throughout the year. I might need some help getting to know how to take care of them all. So here I'm to find some help to keep my orchids happy.

Welcome shiningrock!

Beautiful flower you have! But looking at the picture, I have one question that I want someone to please answer: I was told by someone that it is not advisable to touch the flower petals with your fingers.
True or False?

Hi & welcome to the forum, Shiningrock!

Rocinante -- It's false. I've touched the flower stems, buds, and blooms. It doesn't hurt it. Unless, of course, you're very rough with it, then a chance of snapping something off.

Oh, never touch the area where the flower is pollinated (sorry...can't remember the correct term for that part of the flower). Or else, you will make the flower think it's been pollinated. It will then close up and its stem will swell up (i.e. produce a seed pod).

Confession: I once, unknowingly, did that to one of my Disa flowers. The flower didn't last long...the seed pod (swollen part) was empty.
