Lesley is on a distinguished road
corrigated leaves

Hi,
I'm Lesley and I'm new on here. I have a cymbidium and for the first few years it flowered beautifully. Last year it didn't so I repotted it. This year the leaves have started to come through with a corrigation to them. I've only had one stem of flowers that survived this. I want to know what I should do with the corrigated leaves. How to avoid and more and how I can get better blooms next year?
Thanks Lesley

Hi Lesley and welcome to the forum! Please update your profile so we can give you the best advice possible. This is a very international forum and what advice we give you depends greatly on where in the world you live.

Corrugated leaves mean your Cymbidium is dehydrated. Re-potting can also slow/stop a Cyms blooming for a season. They like to be very crowded in the pot. VERY crowded. They are also difficult to grow indoors because they require lots of high light and enjoy being drenched with a hose. Get back to us with where you are growing, what medium (it could be yours doesn't hold enough moisture) type of light it is getting, and where you live.

Also...if you have trouble navigating and updating your profile, please ask!

In my experience, cymbidiums are almost impossible to over water. Here in Australia where summers are hot and dry we even sit them in trays of water (though I would not recommend this ractice for cooler areas). When I moved here and first started growing them I was cautious about watering not wanting to overwater and I found I had shriveled bulbs and few blooms. Last year I watered like mad and had a nice big crop of flowers.

I grow some of my cymbidiums in a semi-terrestrial mix and some of the are in small bark. The ones in bark need to be watered more frequently. In an odd way, they're almost like paphs in that they like to be always moist, at least my respond best when kept moist.

Hey!! We agree Kevin!! I grow mine in a coco husk, perlite, and dynarock mix and I agree if you have a well draining mix you can't overwater. In fact, I have never seen a corrugated leaf on a Cymbidium. I don't let the mix ever dry out; sometimes this means daily watering in the summer.
