| My first introduction Hello, My first introduction to orchids was by reading Nero Wolfe novels. He was an incredibly smart detective who spent all of his time in a brownstone in Manhattan (NYC, of course) and solved mysteries by deduction without leaving his home. On the side, or perhaps as his primary vocation, he tended to orchids. My wife and I have recently moved to Costa Rica and we have been developing our garden. What beautiful orchids they have here and the climate dictates that not much maintenance is needed! Perfect for beginners like us. We make many trips up to the mountains and on our last trip we found many broken tree limbs in the highway after a windstorm. We picked up several orchids that were on the limbs and brought them home. The orchids seem to be in a catatonic state (they were run over by cars at least once) but on the piece of bark to which they were attached, some babies started growing. We will upload some photos and seek advice. We went to a beautiful orchid garden today near our home. The link is orchidgardencr.com Que bueno! Last edited by chrisb19; 02-10-2008 at 04:53 PM. |

| Thank you for rescuing the doomed orchids. Many orchids are really tough plants and can really take a beating and survive so there's hope.
