New to orchids

My name is Sherry Clark, I live in Reno, NV. I spent almost 40 years raising show dogs and show and last year we retired from breeding dogs, but still show. With my spare time ?? I decided to try orchids. I received a Phal from my son about 6 months ago and it is doing well and quite full and green. It is inside in a south/west room. I then purchased two catts from Hawaii and they suffered greatly from culture shock. Both almost died. They are now growing well, getting humidity, good light and cool nights and I am hoping they will bloom again.

Someone told me to get the following firtilizers: 30-10-10, 20-20-20, 10-10-10 & 19-31-17, I was told that Peters was a good supplier. I can't find any Peter's outlet in my area and am looking where to go to get my supplies.

Thanks for your help.

Hello Sherry, welcome to the forum, we used to have a black australian shepard female many years ago, she was a great little dog and smart too, we called her spot because she had one white spot on her chest.

Hello Sherry!

I have an Australian Shep mix....he's got really terrible separation anxiety, and it surprisingly lazy. I have to MAKE him go outside.

Hi & welcome to the forum, Sherry!

Now that the orchid bug has gotten you, I bet by year's end you'll have, at least, a dozen.

Hi, Sherry. So, you switched from dogs to Catts, huh! Welcome, you'll get great help here (with the Catts, I mean!) I, myself, have two dogs and two cats. No Catts! We would love to see pictures of your dogs and Catts.

It was so nice to be welcomed. I have many dog lists that I belong to and they are not always so kind. Yesterday my orchid raising son from Chicago came out to visit, took one look at my orchids and today we went pot shopping and the three were repotted. Tomorrow we go to our local orchid dealer that is selling his house, with a 1400 sf. orchid greenhouse. He is getting rid of all his orchids and moving to Hawaii. He has quite a few orchids for sale, a few in bloom, but many out of bloom. He has pictures to let me know what they look like. He is only about 2 miles away, what luck!

I bet tomorrow I come home with a few more. We also ordered a humidity tray that will hold more orchids than I currently have. My son had to stop me from getting more stuff. He said "lets get you going right first, then you can go crazy".

I'll keep everyone posted. I am really looking forward to the orchid tour tomorrow. Too bad I wasn't into orchids before he decided to sell and move away. That will leave NO orchid growers in Nevada that belong to the American Orchid Society. Guess I will go to California.

I figure since I have to have all of my dogs baby sat, and they take so much more than an orchid, that it wouldn't be a real problem. We seem to stay home a lot or only leave for dog shows. I am recovering from 10 years of surgeries and pain, some I will have forever and my hubby hurt his arm and will need surgery, so many issues keep us home, on a remote ranch in the outskirts of Reno.
