| Intro Hi All, Zul is my name. Come from Malaysia. I grow lots of flowers in my small garden but orchids interest me the most. You can say I'm always on a lookout for new species. Just last year, I tried my hands on growing some orchids from a flask. All 55 plants from the flask live and that interest me more. Bye for now. |

| Hi All, Zul again. Live in JB, Southern most part of Malaysia. Work here. Born in Singapore, studied there. Relatives / friends : 30% in Singapore and 70% in Malaysia. The last I count, I must have something like 120 orchids plants (not incl. baby orchids). Problem is I do not know their names. Just learning them now. I do not know how to put pixs on this thread. ... otherwise I could include some orchid pixs. And get help from orchid friends/lovers to identify names and species for me. Could anyone be kind enough to teach me how to put pixs here. Thanks. Zul |

| Hi Brian of Texas. Hi rmt 135, we are practically in the same neighbourhood. Digitalgate, we could also meet up together one day. I am planning to go Belgium (Corsendonk and Angleur Belgium) and then Holland (Rotterdam and Amsterdam) next week. Any orchid lovers there ? Last nite, I unflask another bottle. It's a Mokara Chao Praya Sunset. I got 40 small plants in it. The 55 plants in a bottle which I unflasked earlier. ... 2 plant dead. 8 small plants really growing bigger after a month. This is really becoming interesting for me. It's like seeing your kids growing up. Questions : a. Can you re-used spagnum moss ? Even after dipping it in fungicide. b. How soon can you re-pot the small plants from the moss to a solid medium (I normally use charcoal). Could anybody help me ... please. |

| Welcome Zul- I've never done flasking, but I'm sure someone will jump in and help out. I wouldn't advise re-using sphg. moss tho- It starts breaking down and that's not good. Good luck!

morning. Temperature dip into 19c or low.... rmt stay in a area where mist is a common thing. I might use moss if i deflask Phalaenopsis. But i hate hate hate hate moss.!!!! So many things had rotted in them. So my experience will be different from you. In my concrete jungle area, Spagn moss is a kiss of death for my plants. If you deflask Mokara. I strongly advise NO fungicide, No moss. -Just dump them onto a plastic tray with no media for a few weeks. -Only add light fertilizer when you see new growth. -water every other day. -keep them below 1000 footcandle for good 3 months. -keep a fan for circulation but not blowing at them. anything else is trade secret... he he |

| I am getting some good ideas from this forum. Gathered some good useful info. This is what I planned to do within this week. Out of the 40 baby Mokara ; I will put 10 in a used spagnum moss, 10 in new spagnum, 10 plants already in charcoal (since they are already big when deflask ? unflask ?) and the balance 10 without medium at all. This is really interesting ; a bit of work but I enjoy. Any place in Belgium or Holland where I can buy a couple of flask orchids ? ... any recommendations ? Moth Orchids & Slipper orchids is next flasking target. I like to put pictures but I have to post several messages before I can start. |

| the first one seem to Rhynchostylis family. you really need a name for it. Is your fragrance? it should be. otherwise it is a hybrid so far away../. |

| Hi Digitalgate. Spot on ! I was informed that the first orchid out of the 3 posted ealier (left hand most - purplish white flower) is from a Rynchostylis family. It is closely related to Vanda and the group is refered to as Vandaceous. It gives out a nice fragrance. Smells like perfume Poisson. I was told that the second one (middle picture - brown yellow flower) is an Oncidium Intergeneric. Dunno what's the 3rd orchid (far right out of the 3) called ? Help please .... RMT helped me with the names to the next 2 pixs : Spathoglottis. Those grew with soil as media. I am having problems just pronuncing the names in Latin. Let alone remembering them. I wish it could be easier. |
