Hi to all, I had fell in love with orchids when in highschool and had quite a few moth orchids then .That was a long time ago, and after a long orchidless dry spell saw some poor castaways at lowes last year in the reject bin for like 4$ as they were one step from being tossed (bloomed out and shriveled up) I recognized them as moth orchids (sorry easier to spell than phalenthopsissomething...) and thought, hey, I can save them! Which I did, from two plants I got 4, repotted them and was patient and now they have really nice spikes this time around. So now that I am back into having orchids I wanted to find a place I could ask about trying some other varieties that I just am not as familar with but have always wanted to try growing. I have an oncidium Tisiku Marguerite that is just not doing well compaired to my moths and I am sure the growing requirements are different but here in WV I have no one to ask . SO, now that I am a confirmed Geek- HI! -and I look forward to getting even geekier by learning more about orchids on this forum-Diana

thanks for the replies! Sorry I haven't had time to respond sooner, thanks to all for the welcome- I do get the distinct impression I am among addcit/er..FRIENDS when it comes to orchids..lol. I will take some photos of my plants this weekend, I think I may be drying out my oncidium. Should I post the pics in a follow up post on the newbie question forum instead of here? Thanks- Diana

Diana if you are not sure you can post the pic here if you like I can move that into the section for you.

Thanks for the offer to post here- I am taking you up on it as I may be an orchid geek but a computer geek I am not- in fact it has taken me forever to get the resize on the photos down to something manageble! Just kindly let me know where you are moving them and I will follow up on that forum. I have the orchids in a high tech growing spot...er..my windowsill, and they are in bark with moss only on the top to help conserve moisture. We have forced hot air so there is a lack of humidity. I water once a week well and use a non urea fert. from the local hardware store for orchids. I do have one black spot on a moth leaf (Fungus?) other than that they do pretty well. The oncidium has ripples on some leaves and bulbs (Lack of water?) and if the ends of the leaf get damaged they turn yellow and get brown pitting (need to keep cats away better) I has bloomed once but just doesnt look happy. I have it in a plastic pot-mine seem to do better in plastic as we have low humidity, I do have some in clay but I have to watch them more. I was considering putting moss down in the oncidium pot to keep it wetter. Not real sure about how their culture differs from the moth orchids. Hope this post woks, let me know if the photos dont come through. Now you've seen my kids you can tell me why they are ugly-HA
