Well hellow everybody I've just been given an Orchid as a thank you present and I thought it best I don't let the poor thing die.....so, I found this forum and thought it would be a good place to get some ideas on how the heck I maintain a healthy orchid. I'll have a poke around the threads here and if I can't find an answer I'll be sure to ask. Thanks

Welcome! Update your profile to show where you live if you don't mind - it will help when folks post some suggestions in the future to know what kind of climate you live in. Post a pic of your new plant if you don't mind - we all love pics!

hi and welcome to the forum i hope that you enjoy your stay here with us did your orchid come with a name tag ? it would also help if you have a name tag you could tell us the name of the orchid or you could post a pic. I agree with mayers as we are members all over the world with different growing conditions.

Gosh thanks for all those greetings, what a friendly place I've found here. I will update my profile with my location too - thanks for pointing that out. Sometimes you forget how big the world is. My orchid didn't have a tag on it as to what it is. I actually planted it into my garden bed rather than being in a big pot BUT I'm beginning to think I may have done the wrong thing I'll take a photo of the orchid and add it here so you can help me with it. Thanks again everybody, you've made me feel very welcome indeed.

Yes I did plant it in the garden bed.... I'm going to go and buy some "media" I think you call it, to put my orchid in. I'll take some photos of the process so you guys can tell me what I've got and if I do a good job transplanting it from my garden bed into pots.

| OrchidFairy: I think it will be a good idea to put high priority on getting them out of the garden soil. Good luck with re-potting.

Fabulous Tess....I'll take a picture first before I dig it up. I really didn't know what potting mix to get. I'll take a photo first thing tomorrow and pop it up. Thanks so much for your help. ![]()

Well here are some photos of the orchid in my garden bed. It's a bit messy because it's being overtaken by a fern. What media should I pot it in? Thanks for you help. Picture 112.jpg Picture 113.jpg Picture 114.jpg
