Hello from Indiana !!!

I'm a newbie for being at this just over a year and new to the group!!! I have always loved orchids and had a fear of owning them cause of my "brown thumb" theory. Now brave and bold, I own two (was 3). All advice welcome and will be reading these threads like a bible!

I'm glad I found this forum. My next goal is to get a Sharry Baby if I can master the two babies I have now. I don't want to buy another orchid until I can get these to bloom.

Hi & welcome to the forum.

What type of orchids do you have? Post pics when you have a chance. We'd like to 'meet' your 'chids.

I posted pics on other threads. One pic is in the photo contest. That's my Mtdm. Bartley Schwarz Highland. I bought it in bloom, and waiting for it to rebloom. My other orchid is a Phal. It's growing new roots and a new leaf now. The other pic is in the Phal ID thread under Orchid Data Information for Newbies.

This is my Phal. Like I said, it's growing new roots and a new leaf. It's a Wally World Special (Wal-Mart). My daughter broke the leaf in the back and it survived. I was shocked.

This is my second baby.

I bought these when they were in bloom and I don't want to buy another Orchid until these bloom again while under my care. I want to master what I got first before going ORCHID BALLISTIC.

Welcome -
Looking for a Sharry Baby eh? I found a bloomed out one at Whole Foods last late spring for $5 and brought it home to the family. It is now spiking for the first time for me! Exciting..... If you are inclined to stay with us for awhile why not visit this thread and post a pic of yourself! http://www.orchidgeeks.com/forum/gen...highlight=post

pikevi,

Many Oncidiums seem to like bright indirect light or a few hours of sun. I, too, have a Sharry Baby and waiting for it to spike/bloom for me. Right now, it doesn't get enough sun, or hours of bright light. I think, I need to find a spot for it to get lots of light.

Thanks arleneg.

I think it could be insufficient light as you suggest. I am afraid they are not going to get more light any time soon We are going to face winter soon and the plants will have to stay inside.

pikevi,

We're going into winter here soon, too. So my Sharry Baby will have to stay where it is right now. I'll move it to a brighter spot next spring.
